How do OpusClip credits work?
OpusClip's help center, How Do Credits Work?: "processing clips will cost 1 credit per minute of the original video imported. For example, processing a 30-minute video would use 30 credits." Posting to X costs "3 credits per post," per X account. On a monthly plan, "your credits expire in 60 days." If you cancel, remaining credits still expire on their original date.
The meter scales with your raw footage, not your finished shorts. A two-hour stream costs the same whether you keep three clips or thirty. OpusClip's help page also says you can trim the "Processing timeframe" before you submit, and that credits frozen by a failed X post are refunded.
What do OpusClip users complain about?
On Trustpilot, recent reviews describe the credit meter and the free plan:
- Kevin GQ Wessell (October 7, 2026): "every time you turn around, they want you to buy more credits."
- Hunna (October 6, 2026): "The clipping itself is actually pretty decent," but the free version "completely deletes any saved progress you had" after three days, "and even upgrading to the pro version doesn't revitalise those projects."
How do you cut shorts locally with an AI agent?
PilotCut gives your agent the same 83 tools the editor UI uses, over MCP and the CLI (pilotcut tool list, describe, call). One prompt drives many tool calls on a local project. A typical pass:
- Keep the master local. The recording and project stay on disk in a
.pcbundle. - Clean first.
cutSilences, removeWordsandremoveDeadAirreturn a plan onconfirm:false, with breath-safe snap, and apply onconfirm:true. - Mark the moments. The agent marks hooks and proof moments. Markers carry origin and confidence, and an agent never deletes a human marker.
- Check what you got.
peekshows a filmstrip, and the 250-entry edit history shows every change. - Set the shape. Pick a 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 canvas and export.
The Core Agent chat panel gates on each tool's risk tier. The CLI and third-party MCP clients are not gated, so a CLI agent can send both the propose and commit calls. Prompts, transcript text and frames your agent inspects follow your agent's provider; the footage and project are not uploaded for editing. PilotCut does not generate footage from text, does not make a one-click finished video, and does not post for you. More on the agent workflow in how to edit videos with AI agents.
