When do you hand off to Final Cut Pro?
Stay in PilotCut while you cut silence, place captions and drop B-roll. Hand off when a client, a colorist or a house style lives in Final Cut Pro. You keep the cleanup you already did. They keep the app they already know.
How do you send the timeline over?
- Finish the edit in PilotCut. Play the cut once.
- Open Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex or another supported agent in the project folder.
- Ask it to write a Final Cut Pro project from this timeline, pointing at the same media on disk, into a folder you name.
- Open that file in Final Cut Pro. Confirm the clips point at the same media on disk.
- Continue color, titles or delivery in Final Cut.
You can also ask for the handoff in the PilotCut chat panel. The result is a timeline, not a flattened movie.
What arrives in Final Cut Pro?
| Need | Flattened movie | PilotCut handoff |
|---|---|---|
| What Final Cut opens | One rendered file | The timeline you already cut |
| Media | Baked into the movie | The same files on disk |
| Further edits | Limited | Color, titles and delivery in Final Cut |
The cuts you already made in PilotCut come with you. Color, effects and titles continue in Final Cut Pro from there.
How is PilotCut built?
PilotCut is the fastest editor for AI: 83 purpose-built tools, shaped by tens of thousands of hours of video-editing practice. The agent writes the Final Cut file from the same timeline you see. Footage stays on your machine. The edit history keeps 250 entries if you need to see what changed before the handoff.
The only downside is there's almost no downside; we're video creators ourselves and know what you need.
